Ocean Rose Abalone Farm Tour and Lunch with Sunset Magazine Travel Editor-At-Large Peter Fish

Located just North of the charming coastal village of Cayucos, the Ocean Rose Abalone Farm harvests sustainably raised abalone from tanks that mimic their natural tide pool environment just a few feet away. The Abalone Farm is a proud member of the Monterey Bay Aquariums Seafood Watch program—which makes environmentally-friendly seafood recommendations for consumers—and is listed with the Seafood Choices Alliance as one of many environmentally smart choices for seafood consumers.

Morro Bay Oyster Company Tour and Lunch

SAVOR will also be hosting a fun and delicious Oyster Tour in Morro Bay. This Ag tourism experience will encompass a unique oyster farm tour conducted by Neal Maloney, owner of the Morro Bay Oyster Company, and a magnificent lunch prepared by the famous Tognazzini’s Dockside Restaurant and Fish Market in Morro Bay. Mark the owner, was born and raised in Morro Bay and has been an active commercial fisherman for over 35 years. Their food is prepared using only the finest fresh fish and seafood. Tognazzini’s has become one of the best seafood restaurants on the Central Coast.

Happy Acres Family Farm

Set in the rolling hills of Templeton and staffed by four women with family support, Happy Acres is a working goat dairy comprised of 200 head of goats and four unique breeds. The goat milk, which is all natural and hormone-free, has a high butterfat content essential to the production of the farm’s line of cheeses, ice creams, lotions and soaps. This is a hands on tour…milk goats, make cheese and enjoy!

Pasolivo Olive Oil

Lauded by the likes of Bon Appétit and the L.A. Times, for over 17 years, Pasolivo has produced Paso Robles’ best-known estate-grown and pressed extra virgin olive oils. With 45 acres planted to 6,000 olive trees, Pasolivo hand-harvests the fruit and estate presses the oil just steps from the orchard. Learn the nuances of tasting olive oil and have a sumptuous lunch prepared by Chef Jeff Scott paired with Villicana Winery wines.

Thomas Hill Organics

Nestled in the rolling hills of Paso Robles’ east side, the Thomas Hill Organic Farm is home to ten acres of more than 800 organically-grown, unique, heirloom varieties of fruits, vegetables and nuts. The produce from the farm is then either sold as part of a Community Supported Agriculture harvest box program or in meals prepared at the Thomas Hill Organics Bistro in downtown Paso Robles. This is truly a “farm to table” experience not to be missed!

Experience Escuela Ranch with California Cattlemen and Cal Poly!

At the foot the “9 Sisters” volcanic mountains that comprised the Morros of San Luis Obispo, lies the historic 2,000 acre Escuela Ranch, owned by Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. This working cattle ranch is the home of Cal Poly’s beef cattle herd and most importantly a living laboratory for nearly 4,000 agriculture students at Cal Poly. You will hear from Cal Poly students how they are learning through first-hand experiences in environmental stewardship and beef cattle sustainability practices. Cal Poly has partnered with environmental groups like the Morro Bay National Estuary to not only protect the environment, but to enhance this valuable watershed for both plants and animals.

You will be treated to a famous Central Coast barbecue with all the fixings’, featuring San Barbara and San Luis Obispo County’s Cattlemen and Cal Poly as your host. You will hear how this tradition has been passed down through generations and still continues as a Central Coast favorite meal.
